Calibration Technologies Inc. (CTI), a U.S.-based manufacturer of gas detection devices, has released its 2023 product catalog, which includes several ammonia/NH3 (R717) sensors like its GG-NH3 Gas Sensor.

With the ability to withstand temperatures of -45 to 50°C (-50 to 122°F), CTI’s ammonia sensors are designed for use in compressor rooms as well as refrigerated spaces like freezers, cold storage facilities and food processing areas.

The manufacturer’s GG-NH3 sensor is available in multiple models with different sensitivity levels, from its standard model that senses 0–100ppm levels of ammonia to its 0–1000ppm model.

CTI also produces a high-range ammonia sensor – the GG-NH3-2% – that is designed for compressor rooms. It can detect potentially explosive levels of ammonia vapor up to 20,000ppm. This sensor is also available in an explosion-proof version.

In addition to ammonia sensors, CTI also produces an industrial-strength CO2 (R744) monitor that can withstand temperatures down to -51°C (-60°F).

According to the manufacturer, real-time inventory levels and lead times can be found on its website.

Ammonia safety standards

In October 2021, CTI produced an Ammonia Detection System Codes and Design Specifications guide, which collates all of the ammonia detection requirements of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR)’s IIAR-2 safety standards.

In the guide, CTI explains the varying levels of gas detection for ammonia-based systems, which depend on system size and location.

For example, outdoor systems that have sufficient ventilation do not require gas detection, whereas 100HP systems located in a compressor room require the highest level of machinery room detection.
