Dedicated workshop on ammonia at Atmosphere 2009

The international conference, bringing together the industry and legislators on 19-20 October in Brussels, will outline technological, economic, and political challenges ammonia and other natural refrigerants are still facing. A call for action signed by the industry and environmental groups will raise their profile right in time for the Post-Kyoto Protocol discussions in December.

Atmosphere 2009 will be the first global conference on natural refrigerants to be held in the EU’s centre of power Brussels. The event on 19-20 October will bring together industry experts and policy makers to discuss ammonia, hydrocarbons, and CO2. As a milestone on the way to Post-Kyoto discussions, the conference will sum up the technical, political and economic challenges natural refrigerants are still facing.

Atmosphere 2009 will be the starting point for a series of regular events sharing the tagline “Faster to Market”. It will hence serve as an exchange platform for the industry and politicians to discuss the situation for natural refrigerants and remove remaining barriers for their wider recognition on the world markets.

“Atmosphere 2009, simply put, is going to bring together leading experts worldwide to talk about how we can get natural refrigerants faster to market. There are huge market opportunities for these natural refrigerants and Atmosphere 2009 will be a key event to discuss these,” explains Marc Chasserot, Managing Director, Shecco.

Natural Refrigerants ready

In a time when global political agendas are headed by concerns for the environment, and the industry is weathering tough economic times, natural refrigerants offer a market-ready solution to replace fluorinated gases around the world. As a major event just before the December discussions in Copenhagen, Atmosphere 2009 will be precluded by a presentation of a joint statement from the industry and environmental groups in favour of natural refrigerants.

Why is Atmosphere 2009 different?

Atmosphere 2009 will be different from other events in the HVAC&R area as it tries to give CO2, ammonia, and hydrocarbons a similarly strong voice. Dedicated workshop sessions on each refrigerant will shed light on technology options currently available, market opportunities, and key policies. Legislators and environmental groups active in reducing high-GWP refrigerants will present their view on how to overcome barriers for natural refrigerants at the national and international level. More importantly, key players from the investment community will be invited to outline financial opportunities for a wider use of R744, R717, R600a, R290 and others.
